David Moyes has said West Ham’s fixture with Everton is a ‘huge game’ with both clubs mired in the Premier League’s relegation places.
West Ham take on Everton at the London Stadium this weekend with both sides in relegation trouble at the bottom of the Premier League table. The Hammers are 18th, level on the points with Frank Lampard’s side who are a place below them.
Both sides enter the contest without a win in seven league games and Moyes has underlined the importance of the fixture with his former side, one billed as a six-pointer in the Premier League’s relegation battle.
“It’s a huge game for both, but one you look forward to,” Moyes said at his pre-match press conference.
“Hopefully we can come out on top. Tomorrow’s game means a lot, and from that point of view we need to focus on getting three points.
“We’re halfway through the season, there’s a long way to go and we have to make sure we improve [to get the results].
“We need to score more goals, that’s the obvious thing. We’ve brought in Danny Ings and we’re working hard to get those better results.”
Moyes spoke further on the signing of Danny Ings, with the forward’s £12m move from Aston Villa completed on Friday. The 30-year-old adds to the club’s attacking options and Moyes was delighted to seal a deal for a proven Premier League goalscorer.
“He is what we need,” he added.
“We need someone who knows the league. We’ve had a look at a few players to strengthen, but I wanted to bring someone in who wasn’t a risk in terms of knowing the league.
“Danny is a good as it gets. The paperwork was done in time and we need to wait for the confirmation on registration.”
