Arsenal considering deadline day move for Chelsea’s Jorginho

Arsenal are considering a move to sign Jorginho from Chelsea as the club look to bring in a midfielder before the deadline.

Mikel Arteta wants to add a midfielder to his squad before Tuesday’s transfer deadline and Jorginho has emerged as a potential target.

The 31-year-old has entered the final six months of his contract at Chelsea and is expected to leave at the end of the season, though Arsenal could offer Jorginho an early exit and agree a cut-price deal with their London rivals.

Chelsea are understood to be open to selling Jorginho as the club close in on the signing of Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez for a British transfer record fee of around £115m.

Arsenal’s search for a midfielder has seen the club have two bids turned down for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and the Daily Mail are reporting that the Gunners fear damaging their strong relationship with the Seagulls if a third offer is submitted in the closing stages of the window.

Arsenal have signed Ben White and Leandro Trossard from the south-coast club in recent transfer windows and are keen not to disrespect Brighton in their pursuit of Caicedo.

Brighton have insisted that the Ecuador international is not for sale this month, though a bid of around £80m could change that stance in the final hours of the window. Arsenal have also considered Leicester’s Youri Tielemans and Everton’s Amadou Onana as potential alternatives.
