Chelsea’s homegrown talents fear they will be forced out of the club this summer if the west Londoners fail to secure Champions League qualification.
Chelsea have spent more than £500m on new signings since last summer and were placed on UEFA’s watchlist in terms of meeting Financial Fair Play regulations last year.
The scrutiny on Chelsea’s spending will be increased should the club miss out on Champions League football, with Graham Potter’s side facing an uphill task to finish in the top four. Chelsea are tenth in the Premier League table, ten points outside the Champions League places.
According to the Telegraph, Chelsea’s homegrown contingent fear they will ‘jump to the front of the queue’ of players sold if Chelsea miss out on a place in Europe’s elite. Academy products count as zero cost in Uefa’s FFP calculations, meaning any sales would register as pure profit for the club.
Conor Gallagher, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are among the names who could be sold, with the former having been the subject of an approach from Everton in January.
Chelsea began their clear-out with the sale of Jorginho to Arsenal on deadline day and mass sales are expected this summer.
Romelu Lukaku, Piere-Emerick Aubameyang, Kalidou Koulibaly, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech could all be sold on if suitable offers arrive.
The latter saw a deadline day move to PSG collapse with the Ligue 1 side having been angered with Chelsea’s conduct during the process of finalising the failed move.
