Klopp says Liverpool injury issues are ‘looking better’ as Jota closes in on return

Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on Liverpool’s injury issues as Diogo Jota closes in on a return to the side.

Liverpool travel to face Wolves in the Premier League this weekend as the Reds look to bounce back from a poor run of form. Klopp’s side have won just one of six games in all competitions and have struggled in the absence of key personnel.

Ibrahima Konate was the latest name to join the treatment table and the centre-back is expected to miss three weeks with a hamstring injury. There was more positive news on Diogo Jota however, who has returned to training this week having not featured since October with a calf problem.

Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk are also closer to returning and Klopp admits the situation is looking a ‘little better’, ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.

“It is looking better, generally. Diogo Jota had a full session with the team this week, but then he had a rehab session. That was part of the plan, he’ll be back in full training next week,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“Bobby [Firmino] is getting closer, very good obviously. Luis [Diaz] is running now, but Ibou [Konate] is out. Virgil [van Dijk] will train next week but he is not ready.

“Ibou has a muscle injury. The changes in defence are not cool, you want to make changes with rotation, but Joel [Matip] and Joe [Gomez] have played together before.”
