Chelsea ‘in talks’ over Aubameyang exit

Chelsea are said to be in talks over the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with Los Angeles FC interested in signing the forward.

Aubameyang has fallen out of favour at Chelsea and has been left out of the west London club’s squad for the Champions League’s knockout stages, following a disappointing return to the Premier League.

The 32-year-old signed for Chelsea from Barcelona last summer, but has scored just three goals in 17 appearances across all competitions.

He has struggled for minutes since the arrival of Graham Potter as head coach in September, but saw an exit in the January window blocked due to FIFA rules.

Aubameyang can not feature for another club during the 2022/23 season having already represented Barcelona and Chelsea.

However, an exception to the rule means the Gabon international could play in official matches for a third club if the move is between two sides belonging to associations with overlapping seasons (i.e. start of the season in summer/autumn as opposed to winter/spring).

Spanish outlet Relevo are reporting that LAFC have now held talks with Chelsea over Aubamyenag, as the MLS side seek a big-name replacement for Gareth Bale who announced his retirement from the game last month.

The MLS season begins in February and is considered an overlapping season under FIFA rules.
