Manchester United are reportedly prepared to equal the British transfer record in order to sign Napoli forward Victor Osimhen this summer.
Osimhen has emerged as one of the club’s top transfer targets as Erik ten Hag looks to sign a centre-forward this summer, following a brilliant season for the Italian league leaders.
The 24-year-old has scored 16 league goals to lead the race for the Capocannoniere award as Serie A’s top scorer, with Napoli 13 points clear at the top of the division and closing in on a first league title since 1990.
La Gazzetta dello Sport, as per the Mail, are reporting that United are prepared to spend big in their pursuit of Osimhen and are willing to equal the British transfer record to land the Nigerian.
United have been short at centre-forward this season, following Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit and Anthony Martial’s injury issues. Ten Hag signed Wout Weghorst on a six-month loan deal in January in a bid to add depth to his options.
Osimhen has a release clause of €120m (£107m) in his contract at Napoli and the Italian side believe that the Red Devils will match that figure. It would equal the British transfer record, set by Enzo Fernandez’s move from Benfica to Chelsea last month.
Osimhen signed for Napoli from Lille in 2020 and has since scored 45 goals in 83 appearances.
