Premier League clubs want Man City ‘kicked out’ if found guilty

Premier League clubs want Manchester City ‘kicked out’ of the league if the club are found guilty of financial breaches.

City are facing more than 100 charges of financial breaches with the Premier League having released a statement confirming the charges on Monday, following a four-year investigation into the club’s dealings.

The punishments which could be handed to City, if found guilty, include a fine, potential points deductions or the removal of titles won during the period relating to the charges between 2009 and 2018.

The most severe sanction could be expulsion from the Premier League and Sky Sports are reporting that ‘many’ sides are in support of removing City from the division if the club are found guilty of breaking the rules.

However, the EFL would be under no obligation to accept City should the Premier League take the decision to remove the division’s current champions.

Other members of the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ – Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham – are understood to have pushed hard for action against City before Monday’s statement from the Premier League.

The club’s alleged breaches include financial irregularities surrounding sponsorship deals and revenue, breaking UEFA and Premier League Financial Fair Play rules, and failing to co-operate with the four-year investigation which has led to the charges.

In response, City released a statement expressing their ‘surprise’ at the allegations and charges.
