Jurgen Klopp believes ‘the signs are there’ that Liverpool will find a response to their form ahead of Monday’s Merseyside Derby.
Liverpool host Everton in the Premier League on Monday night as the two city rivals go head-to-head at Anfield.
Klopp’s side have struggled in recent weeks and continued their poor form with a 3-0 loss at Wolves last weekend, a result which extended the Reds’ run to one win in seven games since the turn of the new year.
Last weekend’s defeat left Liverpool 11 points adrift of the Premier League’s top four, but Klopp insists he has seen signs from his side this week that the club can turn around their season.
“Definitely all the signs are there [that the players want to respond to defeat at Wolves]. We have to show that on Monday, but in training there has been really good,” he told his pre-match press conference.
“The aggression is there, determination is there, readiness is there, the focus is there, concentration is there, intensity is there. So far a really good week.”
Klopp was asked on his decision to give his squad two days off in the aftermath of the Wolves defeat and said it was important his side refocused and rested after a difficult period.
“That’s interesting that it has taken so long to get to that question. In Germany that would have been asked sooner,” he said.
“You can’t train every day. The next day [Sunday] we came in, we talked about the game, analysed it and then I gave them two days off.
“Of course, I could have said after Sunday that we train Monday and just go on from there. I don’t think that would have been helpful, it could have caused injuries.
“On Sunday, after we spoke, I 100% felt as though it made sense not to see each other again for two days. It helped. I left in an average mood and came back in a good mood, so I think that was helpful.”
