Moyes: ‘I’d love to get West Ham to a cup final’

David Moyes admits he would love to take West Ham to an FA Cup final as he prepares to take on Manchester United in the fifth round.

The Hammers beat Derby County in the last round to set up a date against the newly crowned Carabao Cup winners, with a number of big sides having already been knocked out of the FA Cup.

Victory at Old Trafford on Wednesday night would leave West Ham just one win from Wembley and two wins from playing in a first FA Cup final since their 2006 epic against Liverpool.

The East London outfit last claimed the famous old trophy back in 1980, and David Moyes says he is keen to help the Irons end that 43-year wait.

“We are having to think closely about how we do things,” he said at his pre-match press conference. “I’d love to get West Ham to a cup final and I’d love to win a cup final. We got there with Everton one year and I’d love to take West Ham into a similar position.

“Going to Old Trafford is always a really difficult game and we’ve drawn them something like three out of four years away from home in a cup competition. The draws in this competition have been really difficult so far, away from home, but let’s go out and try and win this one.

“We’ve got a good mood around the camp. I always felt the players were in good spirits. We focused really well on Nottingham Forest. I’m really pleased with how the players performed and hopefully we can build on it.”

West Ham will however be without Lukasz Fabianski and Vladimir Coufal for the game against Manchester United, the Polish ‘keeper fracturing his cheekbone and eyesocket in the win over Nottingham Forest. Danny Ings is also out after featuring for Aston Villa earlier in the tournament.
