Man Utd in ‘contact’ with Harry Kane and ‘confident’ of signing Spurs striker

Manchester United have reportedly made contact with Harry Kane and are ‘confident’ they can secure his signature this summer.

United are desperately in need of adding a striker to their ranks, with Cristiano Ronaldo having been unceremoniously shown the exit door last November, and Anthony Martial spending more time on the treatment table than the hallowed Old Trafford turf.

Manchester United signed Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley in a bid to add more firepower, though the Dutchman has netted just once, and has even been utilised in the number 10 role at times.

The Red Devils have been linked with a number of strikers in recent months, including Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko and Goncalo Ramos, while the club’s interest in Harry Kane goes back years.

Well, according to The Sun at least, Manchester United have ‘made contact’ with Kane’s camp ‘through a third party’ and have been ‘encouraged by the response’.

Despite only having a year left on his deal, Spurs are said to value Kane at £100 million, though the Sun say United are ‘confident’ that they could sign the striker for less, providing the North London club miss out on Champions League qualification.

Spurs are currently in the top four, though Liverpool – fresh off the back of their 7-0 hammering of United – are just three points behind with a game in hand.

Kane agitated for a move to Manchester City in 2021, though the Citizens refused to meet Spurs’ £150m asking price and have since moved on and signed Erling Haaland.

Kane joined the Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney in the Premier League 200 club earlier this season as he chases down Shearer’s 260 goal record.
