Napoli to demand British record fee for in-demand Osimhen

Napoli will demand a British record transfer fee for Victor Osimhen as Manchester United and Chelsea consider moves to sign the forward.

Osimhen has emerged as one of Europe’s most coveted centre-forwards this season and has inspired Napoli towards a first league title in 32 years, with Luciano Spalletti’s side 19 points clear at the top of the Serie A table.

The Nigeria international is the league’s leading scorer and has scored 21 goals in 23 appearances this season, form which has attracted interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that it will take a Premier League record fee to sign Osimhen this summer, with Napoli valuing the forward at a minimum of €150m (£131.7m).

That fee would make the 24-year-old the third-most expensive footballer of all time and eclipse the £106.1m British transfer record fee that Chelsea paid to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica in January.

Napoli are under no pressure to sell Osimhen, who has scored 53 goals in 91 appearances across all competitions since his club-record arrival from Lille in 2020.

He is understood to be happy at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, but previously discussed his ‘dream’ to play in the Premier League.

Osimhen’s goals have fired Napoli within reach of a first Scudetto since 1990, while the club will also meet AC Milan in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. It is the first time that Napoli have reached the last eight of the competition.
