Ruben Neves is in negotiations with Manchester United over a move to the club from Wolves, according to reports in Spain.
Neves is expected to leave Wolves this summer and has been linked with a number of top clubs across Europe, with Barcelona among those to hold a long-standing interest in the Portuguese midfielder.
The Spanish side had considered Neves as a potential replacement for Sergio Busquets, but Sport are reporting that Barcelona have abandoned their pursuit of the 26-year-old amid the expectation that he will remain in the Premier League.
Manchester United are reported to have began negotiations with the midfielder, as the Red Devils look to reinforce their midfield and beat off competition from Chelsea and Liverpool.
Erik ten Hag wants to sign a midfielder this summer, with Scott McTominay linked with an exit and Marcel Sabitzer set to return to Bayern Munich when his loan expires at the end of the season.
Neves is keen to leave Wolves in search of Champions League football and the club are unexpected to stand in his way as the midfielder enters the final 12 months of his contract.
The Portugal international has made 245 appearances in all competitions for Wolves and would represent a Premier League proven addition to Ten Hag’s engine room options.
