Andreas Christensen is attracting interest from Premier League clubs as Barcelona consider selling the defender.
Christensen signed for Barcelona on a free transfer from Chelsea last summer and has impressed during his debut campaign with the Spanish side.
He has made 25 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga leaders, but could reportedly become a casualty of Barcelona’s economic issues with Premier League clubs monitoring his situation.
Barcelona want to keep Christensen at the club, but ESPN are reporting that the Catalans have not ruled out a sale as the club look to raise funds this summer. Barcelona need to bring in funds to meet La Liga’s financial rules, having been unable to register the new contracts signed by Gavi, Ronald Araujo and Marcos Alonso.
Given Christensen was signed on a free transfer, his sale would be considered entirely profit and the Denmark defender is one of the club’s saleable assets as Premier League clubs consider an approach to bring him back to English football.
Franck Kessie – signed on a free transfer from AC Milan last summer – could also depart, with Barcelona in negotiations to sign Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer as his replacement.
The Spaniards are also in talks to sign Inigo Martinez from Athletic Bilbao once his contract expires and the 31-year-old could be a cost-effective replacement should Christensen depart.
