Ten Hag gives Eriksen update and explains why he was so ‘angry’ to lose the midfielder

Erik ten Hag has provided an update on Christian Eriksen’s fitness and has explained why he was so ‘angry’ to lose the Manchester United midfielder to injury.

Eriksen is closing in on a first-team return having been sidelined since January 28 after sustaining an ankle issue in the club’s FA Cup fourth round win over Reading.

The 31-year-old has since returned to training and will provide a welcome boost to Ten Hag’s midfield options as Manchester United chase a top four finish this season.

The Dutchman discussed Eriken’s recovery and revealed the midfielder is ‘ahead of schedule’ amid initial fears he could miss the remainder of the campaign.

Eriksen was on the receiving end of an awful challenge from Reading forward Andy Carroll and Ten Hag admits he has been angered by the manner of the Denmark international’s absence.

“I was so angry about that tackle,” said Ten Hag at his pre-match press conference, ahead of United’s clash with Everton at Old Trafford this weekend.

“It was a really bad tackle and a bad injury. I thought we lost him for the whole season.

“He is ahead of schedule and we are very happy with that.”
