Ten Hag not focusing on summer transfers

Erik ten Hag says he is not focussing on this summer’s transfer window ahead of the culmination of the campaign.

After a dreadful start to the season, and a few wobbles during it, the Red Devils look well-positioned to secure a top four finish and a return to the Champions League next summer.

Manchester United backed their new manager to the tune of over £200 million last summer, though it is widely acknowledged that there are still plenty of improvements to be made to the squad, with a striker said to be United’s top priority.

The Old Trafford outfit have endured a relentless schedule to date, winning the Carabao Cup earlier this year and still bein involved in the Europa League and FA Cup.

United have been missing a number of influential players for spells of the season, and Erik ten Hag has asked if he is thinking about strengthening his side in the summer, though the Dutchman insisted his focus was on finishing the season strongly and adding more silverware to the cabinet.

“So [my] thinking about that is first of all, always think of improving your way of play,” he said at his pre-match press conference. “We are now in the final stage. So not even two months to go, so keep working on improving your game. Team, individual. And then making the next step.

“And then summer comes – I already said – of course we are working in the back on this summer, but in this moment it doesn’t have to focus. It’s about now. It’s about whether we are in the right spot.

“We are competing for the top four in the Premier League, we are in the quarter-final of the Europa League, we are in the semi-final of the FA Cup. We already have won a cup, so we have to make it a really successful season.

“We have a great squad, so I am really positive to get a good final stage of the season and to get even more silverware.”
