Liverpool have entered the race to sign Bristol City teenager Alex Scott this summer, as the Reds prepare for a rebuild in midfield.
Scott has starred since breaking into the first team at Bristol City and his performances have alerted a number of Premier League clubs.
West Ham, Wolves and Tottenham are among the clubs to have tracked the 19-year-old’s progress this season, with the former preparing for Declan Rice’s expected exit at the London Stadium.
Liverpool are now understood to been keen on a deal, having sent scouts to watch Scott in action for England’s u-20 side last month. The Daily Mail are reporting that Liverpool’s head of recruitment Dave Fallows and chief scout Barry Hunter were in attendance as the midfielder featured against Germany during March’s international break.
Scott has featured in a number of midfield roles for Bristol City and has scored once and provided four assists in 37 Championship appearances this season, while the teenager is the most fouled player in the division (87).
Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson last month claimed it would take a bid in excess of £25m to sign Scott.
“It wouldn’t surprise me that clubs are interested in him but there have been no bids. Whoever makes a proper bid at some point, will have to be a really big bid to get him,” Pearson said.
“He has to be more than £25m, he shouldn’t go for less than that. Since he made his debut, he’s played upmost of 80 games for us. Some people talk about playing in a second season you can get a drop-off but I don’t think we have seen that at all.”
