Chelsea have invited Julian Nagelsmann to hold talks over becoming the club’s new head coach.
Nagelsmann is a leading contender to become Chelsea’s next permanent manager and is currently assessing his options after leaving Bayern Munich last month.
The German is understood to be keen to take a break until the summer after his shock departure from the Bundesliga champions, a scenario which Chelsea could accommodate after appointing Frank Lampard as interim boss until the end of the season.
Chelsea recently held talks with Luis Enrique over the role and the Spaniard is understood to have impressed the Blues board, but Bild are reporting that the west Londoners want to speak with Nagelsmann and have invited the 35-year-old for talks.
Nagelsmann has forged a reputation as one of Europe’s best young coaches in recent seasons and previously worked with Chelsea’s technical director, Christopher Vivell, at both Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig.
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has said the club are keen to conduct a ‘thorough process’ before appointing a new head coach, following the failed tenure of Graham Potter who lasted less than seven months at Stamford Bridge.
