Real Madrid are admirers of Reece James and consider the Chelsea defender an ‘option’ for the future.
The Spanish side are considering options to strengthen at full-back and have placed James on the club’s list of potential transfer targets, alongside Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.
James has impressed the hierarchy at Real Madrid with his performances in west London, as Los Blancos target full-backs effective at both ends of the pitch.
The 23-year-old has struggled with fitness issues during the current campaign, but emerged as one of Europe’s most productive wing-backs in 2021/22. James scored five goals and laid on nine assists in the Premier League, averaging a goal contribution every 133 minutes.
Marca are reporting that Real Madrid accept a deal for the defender will be difficult, given his valuation in excess of €70m. James signed a new contract at Chelsea in September and is viewed as key part of the club’s long-term future, despite the club’s need for ‘substantial sales’ this summer.
Real Madrid are willing to wait before making a move for James, with Dani Carvajal remaining a regular presence in the side. James could, however, emerge as a potential long-term replacement for the 31-year-old, who has won five Champions League titles at the Bernabeu.
