Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has admitted that he ‘no longer recognises’ his former club following their Champions League exit.
Chelsea‘s season effectively ended on Tuesday night after their 2-0 loss to Real Madrid confirmed a 4-0 aggregate defeat in the Champions League quarter-finals. Chelsea are languishing in 11th in the Premier League table and look set to miss out on European football, with the west Londoners 10 points off seventh-placed Brighton.
It has been a truly dismal spell for the Blues, all of which has seemed to coincide with Todd Boehly’s takeover of the club last May.
Since then, the club have spent in excess of £500 million on players and have already sacked two managers this season, only to seemingly go backwards.
Speaking after Chelsea’s Champions League exit, former striker Didier Drogba said that the west London club now seems to lack class, and urged them to ‘go back to the principles and values they had’.
“I knew this club with a certain class during the [Roman] Abramovich era, but today I find it lacking,” Drogba told Canal+.
“It’s very hard for me to see how they got rid of certain people. They should go back to the principles and values they had.
“I no longer recognise my club.”
