Man Utd transfer boost? Bayern legend says Kane would be ‘too old and expensive’

Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus has said Harry Kane would be ‘too old and expensive’ as he discussed the club’s transfer targets this summer.

Bayern Munich – who take on Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final second leg this evening – are thought to be in the market to sign a striker in this summer’s transfer window, with the club having failed to fill the goalscoring void left by Robert Lewandowski’s departure to Barcelona last summer.

The Bavarian giants have been linked with a number of potential strikers, with Victor Osimhen and Harry Kane having both been linked.

Both strikers have also been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, with the Red Devils in desperate need of a prolific goalscorer after allowing Cristiano Ronaldo to leave the club in November following that interview with Piers Morgan.

Bayern legend Matthaus thinks Napoli striker Osimhen ‘would be a good fit’ for the Bundesliga leaders, though thinks Spurs‘ Kane is too old and expensive.

“I’m excited to see if a new striker comes along,” Matthaus told Sky Deutschland

“Everyone is talking about Victor Osimhen for his sensational performance at Napoli.

“You never know if he can do that in Munich, but I think he would be a good fit.

“Randal Kolo Muani may need a little more room and space than a Bayern striker usually has, but he’s also good in the box and could work in Munich. Harry Kane would be too old and too expensive for me.

“The price-performance ratio could speak for [Werder Bremen striker] Niclas Füllkrug. He would probably be available for €20-25 million [£17.6m-£22m] and score 25 goals in Munich.”
