Arsenal and Chelsea are considering a move to sign Wilfried Zaha this summer as the forward approaches the end of his contract at Crystal Palace.
Zaha is out of contract this summer and can leave the Eagles as a free agent, a situation which has alerted a number of top clubs.
Arsenal have a long-standing interest in the Ivorian and are understood to have expressed an interest in signing Zaha, having failed in an approach to sign the versatile forward in 2019. The Guardian are reporting that the Gunners will face competition from a number of clubs across Europe, including Chelsea, PSG, Roma, Bayern Munich and Marseille.
Zaha – who had a failed stint with Manchester United almost a decade ago – has made 455 appearances for Palace across two spells with the South London club and the Eagles have offered the 30-year-old a new long-term contract that would make him comfortably the highest-paid player in the club’s history.
The deal is believed to be a four-year contract worth £200,000-a-week and is expected to be significantly more lucrative than the proposals from interested sides.
However, Zaha wants assurances over Palace’s ambition before committing to a new deal. The Eagles are currently conducting a search for a new permanent manager after sacking Patrick Vieira last month, following a run of 12 games without a win.
Palace have improved since Roy Hodgson’s return to the club as interim manager and are nine points above the Premier League’s relegation places. Hodgson – the oldest Premier League manager in history at 75 – is expected to stand down at the end of the season.
