Lampard gives unwelcome Reece James and Mason Mount injury updates

Frank Lampard has confirmed that Chelsea duo Reece James and Mason Mount will miss the remainder of the season through injury.

James and Mount have each struggled with fitness issues throughout the campaign and are not expected to feature again this season, with the former ruled out with a hamstring problem.

Mount – who suffered from a pelvic problem earlier in the campaign – is also out and could have made his last appearance for Chelsea as speculation continues to surround the midfielder’s future.

Chelsea face Brentford in the Premier League on Wednesday evening as the west Londoners look to end a run of four consecutive defeats since Lampard’s return to the club as interim manager. Ahead of the clash, the Chelsea boss revealed the club’s injury issues.

“Reece James will be unavailable for the rest of the season, Mason Mount the same, he might make the last match but that’s unlikely. That’s obviously disappointing for us,” Lampard told his pre-match press conference.

“Reece had a hamstring injury in the midweek game, he got through it but then had a scan and he’s out.

“Mason has been carrying a pelvic injury for a while, it predates myself, he has been trying typically but he will have minor surgery, then will have a four-week recovery.”
