Lampard prepared to be a ‘sounding board’ for Pochettino at Chelsea

Frank Lampard is prepared to hold talks with Mauricio Pochettino as a ‘sounding board’ ahead of the latter’s impending appointment as Chelsea’s next head coach.

Chelsea are understood to be close to agreeing a deal that will see Pochettino become the club’s new manager at the end of the season, following a positive round of talks with the former Tottenham boss this week.

Pochettino will take over in west London at the end of the season, with Lampard set to remain in interim charge until the summer.

The Evening Standard are reporting that Lampard will make himself ‘available’ for talks with the incoming manager to help ensure a ‘smooth transition’ for the Argentine at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino has been without a role since leaving Paris Saint-Germain last summer, despite winning the Ligue 1 title last season. He is set to return to the Premier League after previous spells at Southampton and Tottenham and is prepared to take on the challenge at Chelsea despite his previous connection to London rivals Spurs.

The 51-year-old spent five-and-a-half seasons at Spurs and led the club to four consecutive top four finishes and the 2019 Champions League final.

Pochettino’s backroom staff is set to include assistant Jesus Perez, coach Miguel D’Agostino, goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez and his son Sebastiano, who works as a sports scientist.
