Mason demands ‘reaction’ from Spurs at Man United

Ryan Mason has demanded a reaction from Tottenham ahead of the club’s trip to face Manchester United on Thursday.

Mason has replaced Cristian Stellini in interim charge of the north Londoners after the Italian was sacked this week, following Spurs’ humiliating 6-1 defeat at Newcastle last weekend.

The defeat saw Spurs concede five goals inside the opening 21 minutes at St James’ Park and leaves the club facing an uphill task to secure Champions League qualification, ahead of tomorrow’s trip to face fourth-placed Manchester United.

Ahead of the clash at Old Trafford, Mason outlined what he is demanding from Spurs after taking charge of the side.

“Reaction. Absolutely a reaction,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“Sunday was disappointing, so I would hope and expect a reaction from the players and everyone in this building.

“I’m pleased [that fans were reimbursed] because our fans are important to us, we value them and need them.

“The relationship has wavered in recent times but we need them and hopefully they can stick with us.”

Mason is set to begin his second spell as interim manager, having held the position following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho in 2021. The 31-year-old says it is a role he feels comfortable in and insists he is ready to lead Spurs as the club look to end the season strongly.

“From a personal point of view, I’m ready for this situation. We handled it well two years ago [when he was in charge] but a lot has happened since then.

“We’ve got six games to try and have a positive little run but I believe in this group and I believe in this football club as well.

“I’ve been in in football long enough to know how things can change quickly and a result can change a lot. Hopefully we can transmit that to the pitch.”
