Liverpool are keen on a deal to sign Nicolo Barella from Inter Milan as the club consider alternatives to Jude Bellingham.
Jurgen Klopp is planning a rebuild of his midfield and Barella has emerged as a potential target, as the Reds look to improve their central options after a challenging campaign.
The 26-year-old has been named in Serie A’s Team of the Season in four consecutive campaigns and won the Scudetto with Inter Milan in 2020/21, before forming part of the victorious Italy team that won the delayed Euro 2020 that summer.
Sport Mediaset, as per the Evening Standard, are reporting that Liverpool are preparing an offer of around £75m to sign Barella this summer, but could face a challenge to convince the midfielder given an expected absence of Champions League football.
Inter, however, face their own battle to reach Europe’s elite next season and are sixth in Serie A at present, two points behind the Champions League places.
Liverpool’s interest in Barella comes after the Reds reportedly ruled themselves out of the running to sign Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, with the financial package required to sign the England midfielder deemed too expensive given the need for multiple additions in midfield.
Dortmund are set to demand a fee in excess of £130m for the 19-year-old, who has also been linked with Manchester City and Real Madrid.
