Pep Guardiola says he had no ‘doubt’ that Manchester City would win a ‘tight’ encounter at Fulham as the champions moved above Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table.
Julian Alvarez’s stunning strike sealed a win in west London for Guardiola’s side, after Carlos Vinicius had cancelled out Erling Haaland’s opener from the penalty spot.
Haaland’s goal saw him equal the 34-goal record for a Premier League season and was his 50th in all competitions – the most any player has recorded in a season for an English club since 1931.
Guardiola reflected on the win for his side and insisted he never had any doubts that City would leave Craven Cottage with all three points.
“I didn’t have any doubt,” Pep told BBC’s MOTD.
”The game was so tight until the end, we could not expect anything differently.
”This amount of games is a lot but we knew that after we beat Arsenal at home that winning these types of games is really important. The players behaved amazingly.”
City’s win continued their impressive recent form and saw them move a point above Arsenal at the top, while the Citizens still have a game in hand over the Gunners.
Guardiola said it was an important result for his team, but says the focus is on Wednesday’s clash with West Ham as the leaders look to cement their advantage.
“It’s important but on Tuesday Arsenal will play. The important is the West Ham game, it’s a game in hand. After that we’ll be top of the table and it will be more real.”
