Sam Allardyce has emerged as a candidate to replace Javi Gracia as pressure mounts on the Leeds manager.
Gracia’s position is under threat after a run of five games without a win, with an emphatic 4-1 defeat at relegation rivals Bournemouth leaving Leeds outside the Premier League’s bottom three on goal difference.
The manner of the club’s recent defeats has caused concern as Leeds conceded 23 goals in April, a record for a Premier League side in a calendar month.
The club’s board are now understood to be considering change and Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Allardyce is being lined up to replace Gracia at Elland Road.
The 68-year-old has been without a role since leaving West Brom in 2021, but could become Leeds’ fourth head coach of the season with Gracia having been in charge for just two-and-a-half months.
Allardyce’s appointment would represent a shock return to the Premier League, as Leeds turn to a manager with a proven track-record of saving sides in trouble.
Leeds face a challenging run-in, beginning with a trip to face Manchester City on Saturday. The club’s season concludes with fixtures against Newcastle (H), West Ham (A) and Tottenham (H).
