Arsenal set to hand Mikel Arteta £200m summer transfer budget

Arsenal are set to hand Mikel Arteta a £200m summer transfer budget as the Gunners look to compete for the Champions League next season.

The north Londoners have enjoyed a superb season under Arteta to mount an unexpected challenge for the Premier League title and have already confirmed a return to the Champions League for the first time since 2016/17.

Arsenal want to build on the progress shown this season and Football Transfers are reporting that owner Stan Kroenke is prepared to hand Arteta significant funds to strengthen his squad.

The Gunners’ board want to ensure Arsenal can compete with Europe’s top clubs on their return to the Champions League next season and will provide Arteta with a backing to build on his success to date.

Having competed with Manchester City for the Premier League title this season, there is a feeling that Arsenal have a foundation to compete for European honours with additions in key areas.

Midfield appears the focus for Arsenal following a failed move to sign Brighton’s Moises Caicedo during the January transfer window and the club could renew their interest in the Ecuadorian.

Declan Rice is understood to remain the club’s top target however, amid the expectation that the West Ham captain will leave the London Stadium at the end of the season.

A centre-forward with physical presence and left-sided centre-back are also reportedly on Arsenal’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window.
