Erik ten Hag believes Brighton will want ‘revenge’ against Manchester United this week, following the club’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to his side last month.
Manchester United travel to face Brighton in the Premier League on Thursday evening with both clubs pushing for a place in Europe next season.
It is the second meeting in less than two weeks between the sides, after Ten Hag’s team beat Brighton on penalties to reach the FA Cup final on April 23.
The Dutchman believes that defeat will have given Brighton ‘huge motivation’ to get ‘revenge’ this week, as the Seagulls chase a place in Europe for the first time in the club’s history.
“If you get beat you want to have revenge. It’s normal.” Ten Hag said.
“They have a huge motivation to beat us but we have to match that. Not only match that, we have to do more, show more than them to win this game. We have to have willingness.
“I don’t think about home or away, we have to win every game, which means we have to win tomorrow.”
Ten Hag confirmed that Raphael Varane and Scott McTominay remain unavailable for his side, while Alejandro Garnacho – who signed a new contract this week – will not feature despite returning to training.
On Garnacho’s new deal, Ten Hag said: “Alejandro shows he can make the final step. Not only a talent but also showed he can make it. Expectation and demands are higher now.
“He is a strong character and that’s why he’s there in the moment on this level and he did it by himself. There’s more work to go, we expect more from him but it’s great he made it. It tells that we will give young players opportunities, but they have to deserve it.
