Paris Saint-Germain have held talks with Jose Mourinho about becoming the club’s new manager.
PSG are considering change following the club’s disappointing Champions League exit this season, with Christophe Galtier’s position uncertain after just one season in charge at the Parc des Princes.
PSG are five points clear at the top of Ligue 1 and closing in on a record-breaking 11th league title, but a meek exit in Europe to Bayern Munich means the club’s board are considering Galtier’s position.
Foot Mercato are reporting that Mourinho has emerged as a potential candidate to take charge in Paris and the French side have held initial talks with the 60-year-old. Mourinho is currently in charge at Roma and led the side to Europa Conference League success last season, but has been linked with leaving the capital club at the end of the season.
Mourinho’s proven record in handling big name dressing rooms and impressive record in European competition is understood to appeal to PSG. The Portuguese coach became just the second manager to win five European titles after Roma’s Europa Conference League success last season, having previously won the Champions League and Europa League twice each. He has won all five European finals he has contested as a manager.
PSG are preparing for change this summer with Lionel Messi set to leave the club when his contract expires, having been fined and suspended by the Parisians this week after going on an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia.
