Arsenal and Aston Villa are targeting a summer move to bring Barcelona winger Ferran Torres back to the Premier League.
Torres has struggled to command a regular role in the Barcelona side this season and could be made available for transfer this summer, as the Catalans look to reduce their wage bill and raise much-needed funds.
Barcelona want to re-sign Lionel Messi on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain after it was confirmed the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will leave the Ligue 1 champions this week, but the club’s economic issues mean sales are required before signings can be made.
Torres appears a dispensable asset for the Catalans and has made just 13 starts in La Liga this season. The 23-year-old signed for Barcelona in a €55m deal from Manchester City in 2021 and has since scored 14 goals in 67 appearances at the Camp Nou.
Arsenal and Aston Villa are interested in bringing Torres back to the Premier League, with the latter’s owners prepared to back Unai Emery in the transfer market this summer following the Spaniard’s superb start at Villa Park.
Torres – who has scored 15 goals in 35 appearances for Spain at international level – is capable of operating across the forward line.
