Chelsea are hopeful that the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino can persuade N’Golo Kante to sign a new contract at the club.
Kante’s current deal expires at the end of the season and the midfielder has been in negotiations with Chelsea over an extension.
The France international has endured a difficult campaign with fitness issues, but Chelsea are keen to agree a new contract and there is optimism an agreement can be reached.
According to the Telegraph, Chelsea are hopeful that the impending arrival of Pochettino can prove persuasive in contract talks with Kante.
Pochettino is finalising terms on a deal to become Chelsea’s head coach ahead of next season and it is understood there is a ‘mutual appreciation’ between Kante and the former Tottenham manager.
Pochettino tried to sign Kante while manager of Paris Saint-Germain and the pair have reportedly retained a desire to work together. Chelsea are confident that Pochettino’s arrival will lead to progress in negotiations with Kante as the club look to tie down the 32-year-old.
Arsenal, Juventus, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a move to sign Kante this summer, should he depart Stamford Bridge as a free agent.
