Man United ‘in contact’ with Benfica over £100m Goncalo Ramos deal

Manchester United are ‘in contact’ with Benfica over a deal to sign forward Goncalo Ramos.

United are preparing to spend significantly this summer with the club expected to receive new backing, as Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe compete to take over at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag and his recruitment team have began plans for the summer transfer window and strengthening the club’s forward line is top of the Dutchman’s priorities.

Harry Kane is the Red Devils’ leading transfer target and will enter the final 12 months of his contract at Tottenham this summer, but the Daily Mirror are reporting that United want to sign both the England captain and Benfica’s Ramos.

Ramos is valued at between £70m and £100m at the Portuguese side after a brilliant breakthrough at Benfica, with the 21-year-old having scored 25 goals in all competitions this season.

The Portugal international is the joint-leading scorer in the Primeira Liga and hit the headlines after scoring a hat-trick against Switzerland in the World Cup’s last 16 last winter.

United view Ramos as a long-term option at centre-forward as the club prepare for a major rebuild this season. Ten Hag wants to add goals to his side next season, following an over-reliance on Marcus Rashford during the current campaign.
