Chelsea want to sign Victor Osimhen this summer with the club keen to sign a leading centre-forward to begin their rebuild under Mauricio Pochettino.
Pochettino is set to finalise his move to Chelsea in the coming days with the former Spurs manager having agreed terms on a three-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
The Argentine will be tasked with improving a squad that has underperformed this season despite a record-breaking spend, with the west Londoners 11th in the Premier League table and unable to secure European qualification.
Pochettino’s priority will be signing a reliable source of goals with just three teams having scored less goals than Chelsea in the Premier League this season. The Guardian are reporting that Osimhen is top of his transfer wish-list, following a fine season at Napoli.
The Nigeria international has scored 23 goals in 29 league appearances for Napoli, with his performances having led Luciano Spalletti’s side to a first Serie A title in 33 years. Bayern Munich and Manchester United are also interested in the 24-year-old, though the latter’s focus is on a deal to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham.
Osimhen discussed his desire to compete in the Premier League earlier this season and has opened up on his admiration for Chelsea icon Didier Drogba. Chelsea are considering Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and Brentford’s Ivan Toney as alternatives to Osimhen, with the club’s summer focus on signing a forward and goalkeeper.
Much of Chelsea’s summer business will revolve around outgoings, as the Blues look to reduce a bloated squad in the absence of European football.
