Man United ’interested’ in Napoli defender Kim Min-jae but ‘nothing decided’

Manchester United are interested in a deal to sign Kim Min-jae from Napoli this summer, though no agreement has been reached.

Min-jae has shone during a brilliant debut season at Napoli with the centre-back having emerged as one of Europe’s best defenders during the club’s title-winning season.

Luciano Spalletti’s side have been crowned Serie A winners for the first time in 33 years and the South Korean has been at the centre of Napoli’s success, leading the division for aerial duels won among defenders.

Manchester United are keen to sign the 26-year-old this summer and Naples publication Il Mattino, via Sport Witness, have claimed an agreement is close with Min-jae destined for Old Trafford.

However, Fabrizio Romano has contradicted that stance and has reported that ‘nothing is agreed’ at this stage, but confirmed transfer interest from the Premier League side.

Min-jae has a release clause of just under €50m that will become active for a short period in July. The defender signed for Napoli for a fee of around €18m from Fenerbahce last summer.

Napoli want Min-jae to stay and will offer the centre-back a new contract in an attempt to persuade him to commit his future to the club.
