Arsenal are keen to tie William Saliba down to a new contract amid interest in the defender from ‘three leading clubs’.
Saliba has starred since returning to the club from a loan spell at Marseille last season and has been a pivotal part of Arsenal’s title challenge under Mikel Arteta during the current campaign.
The France international has emerged as one of the Premier League’s leading centre-backs and his absence with a back injury has contributed to Arsenal’s loss of form across the run-in.
Saliba has not featured since sustaining the issue against Sporting Lisbon in March and Arsenal have kept just one clean sheet in his absence. RMC are reporting that the north Londoners want to reward Saliba’s importance with a new long-term contract and remain in negotiations to extend his deal.
The 22-year-old’s current contract expires in 2024 and three unnamed ‘leading clubs’ are said to be monitoring his situation, should an agreement not be reached.
Saliba signed for Arsenal in a £27m deal from Saint-Etienne in 2019 and spent time on loan with his former club, Nice and Marseille before breaking into the Gunners’ side this season.
