Spurs eye £40 million midfielder as Slot set to become Conte successor

Tottenham want to sign Feyenoord midfielder Orcun Kökcü as the club’s first signing under potential new head coach Arne Slot.

Slot is the number one choice to become Antonio Conte’s successor at Spurs and the north Londoners are negotiating with Feyenoord over a deal for their title-winning manager.

The 44-year-old has impressed during his two seasons in charge of the Dutch side, leading Feyenoord to the Europa Conference League final last season before ending the club’s six-year wait for an Eredivisie title in 2022/23.

Slot’s £5m release clause does not become active until next summer, but Spurs could secure their top target for a compensation fee in excess of £10m.

According to the Daily Mail, the club’s recruitment team are targeting Kökcü as the club’s first arrival under Slot, as Spurs look to build a side capable of producing the Dutchman’s front-footed brand of football.

The Dutch-born Turkey international captained Feyenoord to the title and has been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool after an impressive campaign. The 22-year-old has scored 12 goals in all competitions for Feyenoord this season and is valued at around £40m.
