Arne Slot has ruled out leaving Feyenoord to become Tottenham’s next head coach.
Slot had emerged as a leading candidate to replace Antonio Conte at Spurs next season, with the north Londoners interested in the 44-year-old following two impressive seasons at Feyenoord.
Slot led the Dutch side to the Eredivisie this season, a first league title in six years and just the second the Rotterdam side have won this century. Feyenoord also reached the final of the Europa Conference League last season, but lost to Roma.
Spurs’ hopes of persuading the Dutchman to move to the Premier League now appear over, after Slot confirmed his intention to remain with Feyenoord next season.
“I have been hearing a lot of rumours going around about other clubs’ interest in me,” Slot said, as per Sky Sports.
“Although I am thankful my wish is to stay at Feyenoord and continue working on what we created last year.
“There is not – and there has not – been transfer conversation and yesterday’s meeting [with Feyenoord] was exclusively for an extension.
“All talks with the club have always been only in that sense. Looking forward to next season with Feyenoord.”
Slot’s decision leaves Spurs in search of new candidates, having seen several coaches distance themselves from the position.
Burnley’s Vincent Kompany and Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso are among the potential candidates to have reaffirmed their commitment to their current clubs.
