Jurgen Klopp has said he will ‘make changes’ to the Liverpool side ahead of the club’s final-day dead rubber against Southampton.
Liverpool travel to face Southampton in their final fixture of the Premier League season on Sunday, with the Reds guaranteed to finish fifth in the table regardless of the result at St Mary’s.
Klopp confirmed that he will use the fixture to make changes to his team given there is little at stake for his side.
“I cannot remember the last time we played on the last day and everything was sorted,” he told his pre-match press conference.
“Usually we play and everything is at stake. We want to play to win and that is the only reason we need. It makes sense to make changes. To get fresh legs in and play players that want to show something.”
Klopp provided an update on the fitness of his squad and confirmed that Darwin Nunez has returned to training. Ibrahima Konate is a doubt through illness, while Andy Robertson is expected to miss out with a groin issue.
“Darwin Nunez trained yesterday. Ibou [Konate] was ill yesterday. Robbo [Andy Robertson] felt something in his groin; it was scanned and is fine but we have to see how we can deal with that. Long-term [absentees] are still out, but the rest will be alright.”
