Mohamed Salah has said he is ‘devastated’ after Liverpool missed out on Champions League qualification and admits the side ‘failed’ this season.
Liverpool’s absence from next season’s Champions League was confirmed on Thursday after Manchester United beat Chelsea 4-1 to secure a top four finish in the Premier League.
Liverpool will play Europa League football for the first time since 2015/16 next season, after United’s win confirmed Jurgen Klopp’s side will finish the season fifth in the Premier League table.
Salah took to social media to express his disappointment at Liverpool’s absence from Europe’s elite next season and apologised to the club’s fanbase for failing to achieve the ‘bare minimum’ of qualification.
The Reds have had recent success in the competition and had reached three Champions League finals since 2018.

“I’m totally devastated,” Salah wrote on Twitter. “There’s absolutely no excuse for this. We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed.
“We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum.
“I am sorry but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you and ourselves down.”
Liverpool will end their Premier League season at relegated Southampton on Sunday.
