David Moyes believes the best is still to come for West Ham as the club prepare to face Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final.
West Ham take on Fiorentina in Prague on Wednesday evening as the Hammers look to win a first major trophy since lifting the FA Cup in 1980.
The club’s European performances have been a welcome distraction to a challenging Premier League campaign and the Londoners are set for a first continental final in 47 years.
The fixture will represent Moyes’ first European final and offers the 60-year-old a chance to win a major trophy for the first time in a managerial career that has spanned more than two decades.
Moyes was linked with leaving West Ham during a disappointing run of domestic form earlier this season, but ahead of the final expressed his happiness at the London Stadium and a belief that this can be just the start for his side.
“To be in a European final is a thrill,” Moyes said, via the club’s official website.
“For an experienced or a younger manager, to reach a final is one of the pinnacles in football.
“It is the start. I am enjoying being here and I have always said the best is to come.”
West Ham reached the Europa League semi-finals last year, but missed out on a place in the final after defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Moyes is hoping his side can now go on and win silverware after an impressive run to the Conference League decider.
“We came close last year, we really did, and this year we’ve gone a step further. It’s a big achievement to get through to a European final.
“It’s not easy to get all the way through when you’re playing in the Premier League too and we’ve been competitive. It’s a great achievement for all the players and the next part is to see if we can go on and win it.”
