Tottenham interested in signing Harry Maguire

Tottenham interested in signing Harry Maguire from Manchester United this summer, as the club look to rebuild under new manager Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou was appointed as the club’s new head coach on a four-year deal on Tuesday and the Australian is keen to sign at least one new central defender.

Maguire has emerged as a transfer target for the north Londoners with the England international expected to leave Manchester United.

The 30-year-old started just seven league fixtures under Erik ten Hag last season and the Dutchman admitted recently that Maguire ‘has a decision to make’ on his future after struggling for minutes.

Gareth Southgate has also said that Maguire’s place with England is under threat if he does not secure regular football and Spurs are considering offering the centre-back a route out of Old Trafford. The Telegraph are reporting that Spurs are weighing up an offer for Maguire, who could be available for a ‘cut-price fee’.

A potential move for Maguire is not linked to Manchester United’s interest in Harry Kane and there has been no suggestion that the two players could move in the opposite direction as part of the same deal. Spurs hope the arrival of Maguire could help persuade Kane to commit to the club, with the two sharing a close relationship from their time together with England.

Spurs’ need for defensive additions comes with the north London side preparing a clear out as the Postecoglou era begins. Spurs will listen to offers for Davinson Sanchez, Ben Davies and Eric Dier, while Clement Lenglet has returned to Barcelona after his loan move.
