Manchester United have sent message to Mason Mount confirming the club’s intention to push for a deal in the coming days.
United are in negotiations with Chelsea over a deal to sign the England midfielder, who is expected to leave the west Londoners this summer after talks over a contract extension broke down.
Erik ten Hag wants to add Mount to his squad as the Red Devils target the signing of a mobile number eight and the club are understood to have agreed personal terms with Mount ahead of a potential move to Old Trafford.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that United have sent ‘messages’ to Mount to assure the midfielder that the club’s efforts to sign the star will be intensified in the coming days.
United are reluctant to meet Chelsea’s current asking price of €80m (£68m), given Mount has just a year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
Mount is expected to leave Chelsea with the Blues reluctant to run the risk of losing the 24-year-old on a free transfer next summer. Discussions over a contract extension broke down earlier this year, with Mount having felt undervalued during talks.
The midfielder was named as Chelsea’s Player of the Season in 2020/21 and 2021/22, but the offer of a new deal was deemed not reflective of his importance to the squad, given the contracts handed to new signings in recent transfer windows.
