Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez is under consideration at Chelsea as the club look to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.
Mauricio Pochettino wants to sign a new number one at Chelsea ahead of next season and the west Londoners have compiled a shortlist of potential transfer targets. Martinez is on the club’s radar, having seen his reputation rise with a string of impressive performances for club and country.
The 30-year-old was named as The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper after winning the Golden Glove as Argentina won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar last winter.
He had earlier been named in the Copa América Team of the Tournament after winning the competition’s Golden Glove during Argentina’s 2021 success.
Martinez also shone as Aston Villa secured qualification for the Europa Conference League last season after an impressive turnaround in the Premier League under Unai Emery.
Villa would be reluctant to lose the goalkeeper who is considered a key figure at the club, but talkSPORT are reporting that Chelsea are considering an approach. The Blues are keen to offload Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga ahead of next season and Chelsea are open to offers for both goalkeepers.
Andre Onana is also an option for Chelsea after starring during Inter Milan’s run to the Champions League final. The Cameroon international led the Champions League for saves and clean sheets and is valued at around £50m at the San Siro.
