Arsenal lodge improved bid to Chelsea for Kai Havertz

Arsenal have submitted an improved offer worth £60m for Chelsea’s Kai Havertz.

Arsenal saw an opening bid of £50m turned down for the Germany international last week and have returned with an improved offer worth a guaranteed £55m and a further £5m in potential add-ons.

The Gunners are keen to wrap up a deal as soon as possible and the Daily Mail are reporting that Havertz will be offered a long-term deal worth around £210,000-a-week at the Emirates.

The 24-year-old is keen on the move to Arsenal after an inconsistent period at Chelsea. Havertz scored nine goals in 47 appearances last season, but has struggled for consistent performances in a centre-forward position since signing for Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen.

Arsenal are understood to view Havertz primarily as an attacking midfielder, but value his flexibility to move into the front three.

Chelsea set an initial valuation in excess of £70m for Havertz, but could be persuaded to sell quickly as the club look to raise funds for their own transfer business.

The Blues are chasing a deal to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton, but must raise funds before pursuing the Ecuador international. Caicedo could cost up to £100m and Chelsea’s record-breaking spend last season means sales are required before a move can be made.

Chelsea are working on a number of exits with Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy and Hakim Ziyech all in discussions over transfers to The Saudi Pro League.
