Arsenal offer £30 million for highly-rated Ajax defender Jurrien Timber

Arsenal have made an opening offer worth £30m to sign Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.

Timber has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent transfer windows and Arsenal have now launched a move to sign the highly-rated centre-back.

The Gunners have submitted an opening proposal worth around £30m for Timber, but The Athletic are reporting that Ajax value the Netherlands international at £50m.

Personal terms are not expected to be an issue with Arsenal understood to have agreed terms with Timber’s representatives and the two clubs will now look to reach a compromise on the fee.

Manchester United were interested in a deal to sign Timber last summer as Erik ten Hag looked to reunite with the 22-year-old, while Liverpool have also been linked with the defender who can operate centrally or at full-back.

Timber has made 121 appearances for Ajax since progressing through the club’s academy ranks and has won two Eredivisie titles with the club.

He was named as the Eredivisie Player of the Year and Eredivisie Talent of the Year during Ajax’s 2021/22 title success and has won 15 caps for the Dutch at international level.
