Man United to set to make new £50 million bid for Mason Mount

Manchester United are set to make an improved offer of £50m to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

United have seen an opening bid of around £40m turned down for the England midfielder and are preparing to return with an improved proposal.

Mount is set to enter the final 12 months of his contract at Chelsea this summer and is keen on the move, after talks over a contract extension in west London broke down. Chelsea value the 24-year-old at £70m, but Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Manchester United are confident that an agreement can be reached.

Erik ten Hag has made the signing of Mount a priority for the summer transfer window as the Red Devils look to improve their midfield options. Mount endured a disappointing campaign last season with fitness problems impacting his performances, but was named as Chelsea’s Player of the Season in 2020/21 and 2021/22.

He has made 195 appearances since progressing from the club’s academy system and has scored five goals in 36 caps for England.

Mount is expected to form part of an exodus at Chelsea this summer, with several stars set to move on as the club rebuild from a poor campaign.

Arsenal are interested in Kai Havertz, N’Golo Kante is on the verge of being announced as a new signing at Al-Ittihad, and Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly and Hakim Ziyech are all in discussions over lucrative moves to The Saudi Pro League.
