Harry Kane is still hopeful over a move to Manchester United this summer, if Tottenham lower their £100m asking price for the forward.
Manchester United had made Kane their leading transfer target for the summer window, but the 29-year-old’s £100m asking price and Spurs’ reluctance to do business with a Premier League rival has since seen the Red Devils move on to alternative targets.
Kane has just a year to run on his contract in north London and will be available on a free transfer next summer, a scenario which could see Spurs lower their valuation as the window progresses.
The Daily Mail are reporting that a price-tag of around £80m could tempt Manchester United, who are keen to strengthen their squad with a recognised centre-forward.
Kane scored 30 league goals last season despite Spurs’ lowest league finish in more than a decade and is viewed as the ideal option to lead Erik ten Hag’s side.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would prefer to sell Kane to a foreign club if he leaves this summer and Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked. However, each are also unwilling to meet the current asking price given Kane will turn 30 next month and will be available as a free agent in 2024.
Chelsea have also been credited with interest, but Kane is unlikely to tarnish his reputation at Spurs with a move to the club’s London rivals.
Kane’s first choice is a move to Manchester United as he looks to win elusive silverware and chases down the Premier League goal record. The England captain has scored 213 goals in the division, with only Alan Shearer (260) having scored more.
