Erik ten Hag has been left infuriated that Manchester United’s takeover saga has halted the club’s transfer plans.
United’s takeover process appears no closer to reaching its conclusion with the Glazer family having made no announcement on a preferred bidder, with British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his petrochemicals firm, Ineos, and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad bin Jaber al-Than of Qatar the leading candidates.
The uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership has impacted Ten Hag’s ability to operate in the transfer market with the Red Devils yet to strengthen their squad ahead of the club’s Champions League return.
According to the Daily Mirror the situation has ‘infuriated’ Ten Hag, who warned that his squad ‘need more’ to compete at the top end of the Premier League and in Europe next season.
United have made two offers to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, but the current owner’s reluctance to spend big given an impending sale has prevented moves for the likes of Tottenham’s Harry Kane and West Ham’s Declan Rice.
Given rivals elsewhere are moving swiftly to strengthen ahead of the new campaign, Ten Hag fears his side could be left behind. The Dutchman wants to reinforce his squad with at least three additions, focusing on a striker, midfielder and goalkeeper.
