Declan Rice transfer ‘getting closer’

Declan Rice is reportedly ‘getting closer’ to a move to Manchester City after the club entered the race to sign the West Ham midfielder.

Rice has been subject of two failed bids from Arsenal who have made the England international their leading transfer target for the summer window, but the Gunners now face competition from Manchester City who are expected to table an offer imminently.

The 24-year-old has emerged as the Premier League’s most in-demand star after another strong season at West Ham, in which he led the division for interceptions and captained the Hammers to a first major trophy since 1980 after winning the Europa Conference League.

Arsenal had been frontrunners to sign Rice, but Sky Sports are reporting that a move to Manchester City is ‘getting closer’ and there is confidence that the treble-winners can reach an agreement with West Ham.

City have firmed up interest in Rice after Ilkay Gundogan agreed a deal to leave the Premier League champions for Barcelona. Bernardo Silva has also been linked with an exit and Rice is viewed as an ideal addition to strengthen the midfield.

West Ham are understood to value Rice at around £100m, having turned down Arsenal’s second bid worth £90m including add-ons.
